The mental wellbeing of students is increasingly recognized as a crucial determinant of academic success and overall personal development, particularly during the secondary school level. This study investigates the effectiveness of guidance needs in supporting the mental wellbeing of secondary school students with special reference to the Sohiong district in Meghalaya, a region characterized by its unique socio-cultural and educational context. The objectives of the study are threefold: To identify and analyze the key areas of guidance needs among secondary school students, to assess the current status of their mental wellbeing, and to examine the relationship between the fulfillment of guidance needs and the level of mental wellbeing. Utilizing a descriptive and correlational research design, data were collected from a representative sample of students using standardized tools, including a Guidance Needs Inventory and a Mental Wellbeing Scale. This research will contributes valuable insights for policymakers, educators and mental health professionals seeking to promote student wellbeing through structured guidance services in underserved and rural areas like Sohiong
