Integrating ESL Games among South Eastern University Students
ESL games have been often referred to as one of the influential techniques to achieve
better learning outcomes. The immediate paradigm shift towards the online learning
mode has made more challenging for both teachers and students to have interactive
teaching and learning along with their active participation. This research study aims to
find out students’ and teachers’ perceptions of integrating ESL games via online teaching
among South Eastern University students and investigates whether ESL games could
assist in achieving intended learning outcomes. This study adopts a mixed method to
collect data aligned with a preliminary survey of a large number of students followed by
a concise online survey and conducted a structured interview with the volunteer students
and selected lecturers physically and online to conduct an interview. The major finding
of the study revealed that the lecturers and students preferred to integrate ESL games
via online teaching. Specifically, motivation, engagement, and high success rate of
intended learning outcomes are best achieved integrating ESL games via a virtual
learning environment.
